I really hope that I get these details straight. I did not recognize the language that this group was speaking when I first heard them conversing among themselves, even though I talk to Lhakpa Dorje Sherpa in English from Phortse, Nepal on the phone about once a month.
Rohit Shrestha on the left has summitted Mount Everest and has finished a half Ironman Triathlon. His daughter next to him, Rewani is an alpine ski racer and may become the first Nepali professional female alpine ski racer. They currently live In Steamboat Springs.
Next to her is Prakash Gyawali who helped me negotiate the multiple ongoing conversations and seemed to be the cultural ringleader of the group. Fourth is Akriti Gyawali who has finished an Ironman distance triathlon in California- as it says on her kit that she wore this morning. She is the second Nepali woman to achieve this goal.
Fifth is Binam Shrestha whose jersey helped me realize the Nepali roots of the group. And last, but far from least is Saroj Aryal who has finished a double Ironman distance event in California. Two of the six are cousins and some are from Minneapolis, MN, visiting the Steamboat Springs area to party with friends.
