David is a firefighter in Louisville who grew up in Saint Louis. He credits Pike’s Peak for inspiring him to move to Colorado.  

I was initially drawn to the Mad Magazine type of artwork on his jersey.  He allowed as how his collection of cycling jerseys is rather eclectic, but tends toward the bizarre.  He had me there.  He suggested that the cartoon artist that I may have been referring to was probably Don Martin.  

But back to Colorado.  David ran the Pike’s Peak Marathon for ten years and when I told him that I had done the double one year, running the ascent on Saturday and the round trip on Sunday, he mentioned that he had done that five times.  Five…..times.
