My neighbor, Steve B. came close to getting wiped out today. He was just starting- probably about 6 AM to 6:30 AM- and had rounded the hairpin past the stone pillars when a descending car (which may have been stolen) crossed the road in front of him, went completely off the road and landed on its side. Two people jumped out of the car, told him they were fine and disappeared. Steve called 911 and the police fanned out trying to locate the driver and passenger in the neighborhood and at Mines Park. Steve was within 30 feet of being (a very seriously injured) part of the accident.
A very good reason to be very aware while cycling the mountain
Wowzers! Never dull!
You never know what’s just around the corner. You can never let down your guard.
I once watched Steve B push himself away from the side of a bus on the *last* hairpin turn to avoid getting run over. We’re really thankful he’s okay this time, too!
